New year check-in

Happy January, Club Rambutan readers! Just checking in how those New Year's resolutions are going.

Whether you’re crushing those goals or haven’t started yet, I have some tips for you as you make your way further into 2025.

“I’m doing great with my goals!”

Keep crushing it! Check out this article for some tips about building a routine. Did you know it takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit? Contrary to popular belief derived from Maxwell Maltz’s book Psycho-Cybernetics, three weeks or 21 days is usually insufficient to develop a consistent routine. If you started on New Year’s Day, keep it up into the second month.

“I’m kind of struggling with my goals…”

It's okay if you have off days or are not feeling it some days. Here are some tips for staying consistent and motivated in the new year.

  1. Set daily priorities. Forget tomorrow or a week from now. Focus on what you would be able to accomplish today.

  2. The Pomodoro technique (25 min work/5 min break/repeat) may be helpful for those needing to do longer work sessions.

  3. Put the phone away. Seriously. Put it away.

  4. Remember to take breaks. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Keep pushing through! You got this.

“I haven’t started, or keep pushing it off.”

Break down your goal into smaller steps. It can also help to visualize yourself doing the task so you’re more prepared going into it. According to a study on subgoal framing, breaking down goals increased volunteer time by 7%-8%.

Keep pushing off on starting? Starting can be the hardest part of a routine. Your body and mind may not be used to the changes or experiences that it is facing at first. However, once you start a routine, it’s easier to build momentum and make progress towards the finish line! The two-minute rule may be helpful in getting yourself on your feet and over the initial hurdle of beginning.

We hope this helps you achieve your goals in the new year or at least give you some motivation. Happy New Year!

With love,

The Club Rambutan team
