welcome to the club*

Established in 2023, Club Rambutan is a creative collective and magazine that features intersectional art across various cultures and communities.

We prioritize collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds, each of whom must demonstrate a deep passion for their work and the message they want to send with it into the world.

By showcasing such work, our mission is to create a more accessible pathway for rising artists to break into the industry without high financial or networking barriers.

Our core teams are based in Phoenix, AZ and San Francisco, CA, and we also organize local events, launch parties, and photoshoots.

  • When interviewing new artists for each cohort, we base our final selections based on artists who embody these three values:

    • Skill Sharing

      • Invest in your community by learning from each other, even as peers. Mentorship is not the only way to grow. Being able to relate to one another allows us to build solidarity and trust, which we encourage through the friendly exchange of techniques, ideas, and observations.

    • It Takes a Village

      • We are all at different stages in our artistry. Comparison is the thief of joy. Recognize each other’s efforts and uplift each other in good faith. A solid support system can fuel the inspiration and courage to keep improving.

    • Represent a Higher Purpose

      • We look for art that exposes new perspectives. It’s not just about pretty pictures. Create pieces that challenge, educate, and celebrate something that is valuable to you. Make things that make people feel.

    • Increased exposure of you work by being published in our printed issues

    • Curated resources to encourage skill and career development

    • An expanded creative network with other multidisciplinary artists through our alumni system

  • Founded by Maria Manaog, a Filipino American community organizer and UX researcher, the initial idea for Club Rambutan was to target only APIDA (Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American) creatives. This was primarily due to her pre-existing experience working with APIDA communities.

    But the idea evolved quickly, and with the help of Creative Director Jasmin Lily Mobasher, the scope of the collective expanded beyond the specific limitation of just cultural and ethnic identity, but to also push for the advocation of artists who come from socioeconomic groups that are largely underrepresented in popular media.
